When You Want To Be Remembered

2016-07-27-BLOG

HW0_273663

It is natural to want to be remembered. To know who we are or what we do to matter in a small or big way. This is especially true for businesses. We know it is true for us. We understand that what we do, our work, our creation matter to our customer and to the recipients of their kindness and sentiment. It is why we take care of our customers. It does help that we think they are all rock stars (because they kinda are). Having said that, we also understand that the customers we serve want to matter in their industry, and we pride ourselves in knowing that we facilitate that, even in a small way.

Companies are responsible for their employees, for their clients, for their partners and for their community. It is important for them to keep a healthy relationship. What does all this have to do with a flower shop, you may ask. A lot actually. Simply put, flowers help companies maintain a good and healthy relationship with their employees, their customers and clients, and their partnering businesses.

HW0_193240

How? Simple. An employee has a baby, is ill, has a family member pass, has a birthday, get married, has some kind of life milestone, has a work anniversary, does a great job; a good employer would send the employee flowers to celebrate or send well wishes. A company does business or meets with another company or a client, a smart business sends flowers to say thank you and creates a friendly and long-lasting relationship. A company makes a mistake (no one is perfect), or has an incident with or inconveniences a neighboring office, sending flowers will help smooth things over.

HW0_372945

Flowers communicate many sentiments eloquently and succinctly. They are anyone’s best foot forward. they seal the deal, lubricate friction, smooth down ruffled feathers, put a smile on a face and make you memorable. You are more likely to be remembered when you send flowers than when you don’t. So why not be remembered and be associated with some classy beautiful creations like gorgeous flower arrangements created by an experiences florist. Yeah…we cant think of any reason why not either.

Summer Hot Spots In DC

2016-07-13-BLOG

HW0_372948We are deep into summer now and it is gooooorgeous out! Sure is is humid some days, sure we get a little rain here and there but we have to admit that our city is beautiful and vibrant in the summer. And since we don’t get these beautiful days 365 days a year, we need to make the most of these few days of perfection. AND take advantage of the warm days and go to all the outdoor cafes and rooftop bars, lounges, restaurants, and cafes we could possibly squeeze into these few months. Because , we at MyFlorist are good people (toot toot) and we love our customers, we’ve searched high and low for the best places to go and soak up some Vitamin D. Remember, all these places are great for socialising, family time, throw small celebratory dinners and parties, romantic dates or even networking for work. Remember, just because you are technically “working”, doesn’t mean that you need to miss out on the lovely summer.  There is a way to incorporate sun time and work time. And we’ve got the places for you!

HW0_197669

Our favorite top roof-top lounge/bar /restaurants are the DNV Rooftop lounge at the Donovan where there is a pool bar (yassss!!! so much yasss!). It’s located right on Thomas Circle and is open on Saturdays and Sundays for brunch from noon to 4pm, or go after work for happy hour from 4-7pm or enjoy the bar between 4pm to 1pm on fridays and Saturdays. Looking for something a little shmancy-er? How about the POV at the W Hotel on 15th St NW between F and E Streets where you can feel like a VIP with bottle service or host a small party. Restaurant Marvin (named after Marvin Gaye) on U Street Corridor right on 14th and U Street NW is another option for a great bar/restaurant for social time while still enjoying the summer warmth. And for good food and great view of Adams Morgan head on to the Roofers.

HW0_242773Sometimes you just want to sit down with your friends and family and enjoy your meal and great conversation while just wearing your shorts and flipflops. If you find yourself on 17th St NW between Riggs and P st NW (yes that’s 4 blocks), then you will have a choices of restaurants offering a variety of cuisine AND spacious outdoor sitting. Perhaps you want to play Bocce while you sip your Vino. Well then, Vinoteca is the right place for you (get the Who Dat Doggy, you must). Then there is the Tabard Inn in Dupont Circle. This place is a little oasis, so charming and so continental looking that you may feel like you transported somewhere out of DC. It’s a perfect place for a date, we promise. Of course there is the Georgetown area, with it’s river side restaurants like Sequoia or Nick’s Riverside Grill. But go to Farmers Fisher Bakers and get the fruity drinks like the Mai Tais and Scorpion Bowls and Daiquiris and… you get the point. It’s like going to a tropical vacation but not really. And it’s right on the river so you get to add that water element to the whole experiences. Win win win we thinketh.

So here you are. Go forth and enjoy yourself. Or not, it’s ok to POMO too. Speaking of POMOing (see blog directly below this) we are generous people so we are extending the competition for another week.

The Pleasure of Missing Out

BLOG (3)

Going out, having fun, socializing, networking and being part of what’s happening is good, exciting fun and healthy. But sometimes is great to go off the grid and just RSVP NO. You will find that there is pleasure in just not attending every social event that comes your way. You don’t have to, furthermore, often times you really shouldn’t. If you happened to catch the Huffington Post article More Americans Embracing POMO (The ‘Pleasure Of Missing Out’) Read the full story, it is in fact, ok to not attend every invitation. There are many reasons to enjoy the POMO.

HW0_486256We, being who we are, and by that we mean just fabulous humans that get to play with flowers, are here to offer you ways to bow out of attending yet another summer hoedown this season with a lot of class.

Firstly, as Al Roker said in his morning segment, don’t be the “maybe I’ll make it” or “I’ll try to make it” person when you know all you’ll be doing that day is wearing your yoga pants drinking you yummy glass of wine binging on episodes of Game of Thrones. If you know you are not going then say so, there is no need or reason for you to create false expectations. But say it in a way that the person who invited you doesn’t feel insulted. Send flowers. Shocker! We know. It doesn’t have to be a ginormous arrangement fit for a king’s palace. A tasteful, artful and well created arrangement of fresh flowers with a note saying “Thank you for inviting me to you shindig, sadly I won’t be able to make it but hope these flowers brighten you day in my absence (because we all know I am the life of the party)” Obviously you can leave the last part out, sadly not everyone has the delightful sense of humor you do.

Sometimes, the invitations require you to travel, buy a new outfit gift for your host and book your lodging. All that is saying is more travel expense for you. And here you are meticulously planning and budgeting your summer vacation to Santorini or Disney World or anywhere. Now you have an invite that will require you to fly across the country which will inevitably put a dent in your vacation loot. Well guess what, you don’t have to go. Here is your chance to RSVP “gosh, I’m sorry but no but here are some beautiful flowers to thank you for valuing me enough to want me to be part of your party”.HW0_474534

These days, with everyone posting “look how great my life is and look at my vast social life” posts on Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat, and incessantly Tweeting about it may lead you to believe that everyone is having a much better and fun life than you to. Not true. If you’ve read the article, on average, people attend 4 social events a month. That’s once a week. so if you go to happy hour with your coworkers one day, to lunch with your friend one day, brunch on one sunday and watched a game at a bar another day you are living the average life. And like you, the majority of people use any excuse to get out an event to netflix and pizza at home. Full disclaimer, I’ve used an imaginary BarBEQue to get out of a real one, simply because it was a great day for a nap and just didn’t feel like “people-ing” that day.

As mentioned before, we are pretty great people and we love our customers. In fact, we love them so much that we want to encourage them to experience the POMO. Soooo… we are offering a competition on Facebook. You tell us about you best POMO story on our FACEBOOK page and whoever gets the most likes to pick up from our store a $100 arrangement, and if you live or work in our delivery area we will deliver them to you. It’s simple, post, get the most likes, win. This competition will run until midnight July12th. Parameters for the competition will be posted on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. Make sure to like and follow us for future competition posts. Who doesn’t love free flowers, right?!

Food, Drinks, Entertainment and Decor For A 4th of July Celebration

2016-06-29-BLOG

When planning a party or any kind of celebration, there are four elements that are a must: Food, Drinks Entertainment and Decor. And for the 4th of July celebration, when we get to celebrate the birthday of our country, it is important we do it with lots of pizzazz. It’s the country’s big day after all, so it’s a given that the theme is red, white and blue. Here are some of our fun ideas that can help you plan your celebration.

HW0_223817Food

BBQ is the go to. It’s hot out, you want to soak up some vitamin D, you have the day off so it’s a perfect excuse to grill al fresco. Plus it a very easy and stress free way to feed your guests that will show up with their friends and their friend’s friends and their cousins, so a lot of people. But you might want your food to follow in the patriotic theme so there are fun of ideas to help you. You can incorporate fruits and vegetables and deserts for the reds whites and blue elements. You can make some fruit salad with strawberries blueberries watermelons and bananas and throw in some mint leaves because yum. if you are baking a cake the you can decorate it and use blueberries and bananas for the stars in the American Flags and white icing and strawberries arranged in lines for the stripes. You can also make red velvet cupcakes with white buttercream icing and plop a blueberry (or three) on top. For a healthier options you can make individual frappes in clear cups and layer with ripe strawberries or raspberries yogurt and of course blueberries. We’ve decided that blueberries should be the fruit of the day!

DrinksHW0_474725

It’s hot outside so you will need to hydrate. Now, what you choose to hydrate with will depend on your age and choice of beverage. Fourth of July is usually a family holiday, so there most probably will be small children, teenagers and adults of a legal drinking age present, it’s, therefore, important that they can all enjoy themselves, responsibly. Here are some cool ideas you can use to incorporate the theme of the day into your drinks. Since it’s july and undoubtedly hot out it’s important you have ice. Ice doesn’t have to be boring cubes of just H2O. You can get creative. Cut cubes of watermelon and freeze them. YES! They  are juicy watery fruit so they are perfect for freezing and they will add flavor to your drink whether it is just water or otherwise AND they will not water down your drink (if you are not drinking water of course). you can make smoothies for the younger crowd. We suggest you blend the different color fruits separately and layer them so they can show the distinct color in the glass you pour them in. If you are serving the fruity deliciousness to an adult then you can pour in some adult liquor stick in an umbrella and tiny American flag, dip your feet in the kiddie pool sit back and enjoy. If you are mixing some cocktails then here are some drinks that will add color to your drinks: the blue Gatorade which is hydrating, refreshing, delicious, and blue, Hawaiian Punch for your red, and Pina Colada mix for your whites.

HW0_430699

Entertainment

Well it’s a party after all, your guest have to enjoy themselves and a great way to do it is to plan games. you can buy red white and blue balloons to stay in them and play water balloons or balloon pop. Or play American history trivia, pictionary or charades (you’ve got to keep the kids brain working in the summer wink wink). Capture the flag with American flags is another good one. Baseball is after all THE American pastime, so you can’t go wrong there. Bocce is another game that is getting some serious popularity these days and a perfect outdoors game for all ages. All these are games that both the younger and older crowds can play and really enjoy.

Decor

We’ve touched on some things already, like little flags for your drink and the patriotic color balloons. But there are so many different ways you can liven up your place to really add some fun to your party. Of course flowers are number one. You can contact a knowledgeable florist and they will guide you through what would look great. And by “they” we mean “we”. There aren’t very many blue flowers and a  plethora of red and white ones. But there are many ways to incorporate the color while adding spark to an arrangement that would make them perfect for a party. Blue vases, blue ribbons or bows, stared confetti centerpieces and many more and be arranged together to give your party the oomph it deserves. You may think, “why would I get flowers to put outside to bake in the sun”, and you would be right to think it but remember your guests are not only outdoors. They will be congregating in your living room and your kitchen and will use your bathroom. Flowers will help you spread the festive decor you have outdoors merge seamlessly indoors and do it with class. And you get to enjoy the flowers long after the party is over, the last of the guest has been shoved out and  there aren’t’ any more hot dogs left. So Bonus!

We hope you have a fantastic holiday weekend celebrating the country’s birthday! Have fun and stay safe!

Famous Movie Dads

2016-06-15-BLOG

There are a lot of movie dads that either remind us of our fathers, make us wish were our fathers or make us thank the stars, the moon, the sun and all that is holy that our fathers are not like them. They’ve made us laugh, cry, cringe, gasp and more. And we thought it would be fun to list some of the famous movie dads that, whether they were good, bad, ugly or funny, did the best they could for their children.

HW0_290383
Play Ball Bouquet

Here are our picks in no particular order of preference:

  • It’s a wonderful life (La Vita è Bella) directed and starred by Roberto Benigni (who, by the way, won the academy award for best actor for this role) is a funny and ohh so sad movie set in the WWII time. It’s a story of a father and son who were taken to a concentration camp where Benigni’s character is set on sheltering his son from the sadness, horrors and tragedy of their misfortune by convincing him that their time in the camp is not real but a game. If you haven’t watched the movie, we won’t spoil it for you but we suggest you have a box of tissue at an easy reach.
  • Of course you cannot talk about famous movie dads without talking about Bryan Mills played by Liam Neeson in Taken. This is a multi part movie about a man  trying to rescue his daughter and her friend, who had been abducted by sex/human traffickers in Paris, by utilizing his massive skills learned from his former life as a government operative. Famous quote I don’t know who you are. I don’t know what you want. If you’re looking for ransom, I can tell you I don’t have money… but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that will be the end of it – I will not look for you, I will not pursue you… but if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you… and I will kill you.” That is a whole lot of promise, and judging from this movie, words that need to be heeded.
  • The Pursuit of Happiness is another goodie played by real life father and son, Will and Jaden Smith. This heartwarming movies of perseverance, hard work and a stubborn refusal to give into despair as a father struggles to make a better life for his son and himself after the pair get evicted from their home with no place to go. Even living in a shelter, or finally landing a job as an intern (so without pay) in a brokerage firm didn’t dim his light or discourage him in his pursuit of his and his son’s happiness. Which, in the end he achieves.

    HW0_290200
    1948 Ford Pickup
  • There are, of course, great fathers of the cartoon variety too. Let’s not forget how Marvin from Finding Nemo swam across the Pacific Ocean accompanied by a spacey blue fish, that couldn’t retain water let alone information, to find and rescue his son that was “taken” by a human diver P. Sherman whose address is 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney – the only thing that Dory could remember and apparently so do we. This is a movie that can be enjoyed by the whole family. Has a lot of funny bits and a lot of fatherly determination to get his son and also a son’s bravery.
  • While we are in the fun world of the animated, the other awesome father that is always there, whether dead or alive, to install words of wisdom into his son, is the King Of the Jungle, Mufasa from The Lion King. This mighty king’s mission was to make sure that his son grows up to become the best kind of king to the animal kingdom he could possibly be. And he did so even after his death. That, friends, is dedication to this parenting thing.
  • This one may be controversial, but no matter Don Vito Corleone’s mobish ways in The Godfather, he was still a good and dedicated father to his children. And all he did in his “unethical” business dealing and offers he made that people couldn’t refuse, he did for his children, his family. He wasn’t just a father to his children but a fathers to his community.
  • Traditionally, a father is the provider, and to provide for his family, he needs needs a job. And this was especially true in old Italy. In post world war Italy jobs were scars and a man had to go through great lengths to get to his job. Literally. So when Antonio Ricci in Bicycle Thieves gets his only mode of transportation, his bicycle, stolen he starts his bicycle retrieval adventure accompanied by his small boy Bruno. This is a beautiful story of a determined man  who to is the ultimate role model to his son and a son that learns about his father’s daily struggles to provide for his family. If your heart doesn’t ache and you don’t have tears in your eyes throughout this movies, I’d check for pulse.
  • Ofcourse not all movies about dads turn us into emotional puddles of goo. There those that use humour to show is the lighter and funnier side of fatherhood, much like Steve Martin’s version of Father Of The Bride and Father Of The Bride II (spencer Tracy’s original version was funny too). The movies show a father’s neurosis in the funniest ways, when he is faced with the reality of his little baby girl is now a woman and is getting married. These are movies you can watch over and over again and never tire of.
HW0_290202
Dad’s Day Ball Park Snack Basket

There are ofcourse many many many other great movie dads that follow similar themes of perseverance and determination, fatherly duty, unconditional love, and bravery. Watch John Q, It’s A Wonderful Life,  Road to Perdition and Boyz N The Hood and we dare you to not be in awe of these fathers and not be moved. Seriously, go ahead and watch…we’ll wait right here…

Now tell us, doesn’t your father deserve to be celebrated for being the kind of of father he is. He did his best to make sure you are safe, protected, and grew up to become the man or woman you are. Showed you how a father should be and much much more. This Father’s Day show him he is the best father you could have ever hoped and wished for. And friends, Fathers like flowers too… Don’t let that alpha male, testosterone, grrrrr fool you. There is a sweet, kind, soft side to him that appreciates delicate things like a pretty arrangement of flowers.

Celebrate Your Friendships

2016-06-08-BLOG

HW0_247263

There are those that have our backs, those that know our secrets, those that know how we’re feeling or thinking without having to say it, those that we probably haven’s seen in so long but when we do it feels like we were together just yesterday, those we don’t have to filter our selves and be selves with those that don’t judge but are not afraid to set us straight when we misbehave, those you can talk or stay silent for hour with and those we would do all that’s listed above for. Those are our BFFs, Best Friends Forever.

HW0_446483They could be the ones we grew up with, or brand new but feel like you’ve known all your life, could be your spouse, your brother or your sister, could be a parent or a cousin, your friend from kindergarten, your buddy from college, or the one you met on your trip to Europe or the friend you met at the gym. it doesn’t matter who they are or how you met; what maters is that you are kindred spirits that can finish each other’s sentence, don’t necessarily agree on everything and are not afraid to call each other out when one of you messes up. You fight with passion but the sun doesn’t set on your fights. Are not insecure around each other and are confident that you have each other’s best interest at heart. No matter what is going on in each other’s life you know you’re there for each other.HW0_417674

Sometimes friends are the family we get to choose (that is if they are not actually family). Which makes them pretty special. And special people deserve special days you get to celebrate them. And that’s why we have the National Best Friend Day! We get to celebrate our parents, our spouses, our pets, even pancakes and doughnuts but friends we tend to take for granted. So this June 8th, on the National Best Friends Day we should make our BFF feel extra special. Send her/him some flowers to say “you are the Bee’s Knees” or if you want to keep your friendship offering more masculine, how about a fruit and gourmet basket that will solidify and embarrassed your bro a little. there is nothing wrong with saying “thank you for being a friend” (que in Golden Girls theme song). Or send a long-lasting plant that your friend can keep forever to remind them that are always there for them.

Make this the day your friend/s know you appreciate him/her/them. Think of all the things in your life your friend held your hand through, or was there silently supporting you and being your rock. We think it’s important that friends are celebrated. And we’ll be happy to help you do so.

Best Gifts for Birthdays, Anniversaries, Congratulations or Any Reason At All

2016-05-25-BLOGB

We’ve established that flowers are the best gift for any occasion, literally any occasion. You name any occasion and reason and we can show you how flowers are appropriate for it. Weddings, bereavement, new baby, not feeling well, she broke a nail, bad hair day, the wind blew west? all reasons to send flowers. Send flowers to congratulate, communicate your sentiments, show empathy, say you care, say thank you, passive aggressively say I love you but I am too cool to say it out loud. Any reason. Any reason AT ALL! You know why? Because, as we have have said many maaaaaany times before, flowers have ability to communicate in the purest clearest way and  put a smile on a person’s face and inject some happiness in someone’s day. It’s been proven in science. Would we lie to you?

So now that we all agree that flowers are the right way to go for any reason, let’s take a look at what kind of flowers are best for each occasion. First options, of course, is knowing what flowers they person loves and sending a beautifully designed arrangement of those flowers. This says that you know the person, you pay attention and you want them to have what they like the most. This is especially important in a romantic situation; if it’s a spouse or someone you’ve known for a long long time, it says a lot when you remember the small details. But we can’t always know what the other person likes or we want to change it up a little, So here are the best options for the most popular occasions:

HW0_453980For Anniversary

This is a romantic time where you remember and celebrate your union and a special milestone. It’s a big deal and should be celebrated.  Traditionally, roses are the romantic go to. Specifically red roses. But there are other options. The colors of romance are shades of red, purple, pinks and gold. The deeper the color the better. They show the hot flaming smoldering passion you feel for the person. So, if you want to change it up from the red-hot roses we suggest an arrangement of various flowers in those colors. If you want to keep it in the rose family then we suggest changing the colors. You can combine the hot pinks with the red or even add some Stargazer lilies to the mix to give an extra pizzaz.

For BirthdayHW0_541837

You are celebrating the day this person graced the face of the earth. It is a special day and needs to be celebrated with tons of flair and sparkly happiness. and the flowers you send need to have a touch of party,  a burst fireworks, a dust of glitter and a whole lot of “yay it’s your day!” in it. You can achieve that by choosing an arrangement with starburst colors of sunny yellows, royal purples, sky blues, hot pinks and other vibrant colors that adds a big ol’ ! to the day. And as a finishing touch add a pretty festive mylar balloon that will in fact announce that it is the birthday of the best human on earth!

HW0_472870New Baby

If you know the gender you can choose a color scheme to fit; blue for a boy and pink for a girl. But that isn’t necessarily a must. remember, the people enjoying the flowers are the parents and the people who will file in to take a look at the baby’s rosy cheeks. So the choice of colors you can choose have no limits. Happy yellows, lavender greens are all great choices. incorporate pretty bows and fun little keepsake containers for the flowers add a plush soft and cuddly stuffed animal and bam you got yourself a lovely fun arrangement fit for the little prince or princes and the proud parents.

For BereavementHW0_372998

This is a sad occasion and traditionally the flowers sent are in soft pastels, whites and creams. However, we have to remember that is also the celebration of a life. You are permitted to include some vibrant colors. Flowers send for bereavement are either sent for the viewing/service or to the family’s home or workplace. When sending to the viewing and/or service your traditional options are easel sprays wreaths or funeral baskets. But you also have the options of choosing arrangements in an array of colors arranged in a vase or a beautiful wicker basket designed in a way that the family can take home if they choose to. we give you this option because some arrangements, when don by the right florist, are so beautiful that a lot of people want to have the in their home but don’t because they are not in a leak proof container. And how weird is it to take a funeral wreath home even if the flowers are stunning. Another option is a lush dish garden or floor plant. this is perfect because it is something the family can keep in memory of the departed.

HW0_400720For Get Well

This is not an occasion to use muted colors. this an occasion for you to send a vase of sunshine and make some one feel at least marginally better. So whites and creams with mousey yellows is not what you want to go for. You want popping colors that “I know you are feeling eeky for here something to make you perky” . Go nuts with the colors! Oranges, blues, purples. reds, pinks, lilies, sunflowers, spider mums, orchids, happy gerbera daisies are all great options. Remember you are trying to lift their spirits not bore them to death. They are sick in bed, no need to add more pain with boring flowers and colors.

The Best Songs About Moms

2016-04-29-BLOG

Our boss, lord and master of the best florist in town (in our humble opinion) always says around this time of the year: “everyone has a mother”. True, everyone does have a mother. She may be alive or has passed, we may never have known her, or we may have grown smothered with her love or we may have mother figures in many shapes and/or forms, but we all have a mother. Even musicians have mothers. Shocking, we know. But it’s true, they too have one and some of them have sung some of the most beautiful songs dedicated to their moms. Because a mother’s love does inspire some of the sweetest melody.

HW0_372945

Today, we will share some of them with you. We had fun finding them for you.

Through our search for loving songs for Moms, we found that a number of rappers had rapped about their momas. It’s not something you’d expect. Even tough rappers do have soft moments where they let the love for their mothers shine and we thought it was sweet. Check out the rhymes Of Tupac in “Dear mama”, “Hey Mama” by Kanye West (yes, the self-loving rapper took a break from the self-love to love his mother), “Dance” by Naz, Snoop Dogg, or is it Snoop Lion now, well he said “Took me to school the first day , Taught me how to kneel down and pray , You learned (poetic licence) me how to count from one to ten , And never forget, where I’ve been, momma” in his “I love My Momma” rap song and Talib Kweli put together some of the sweetest lyrics about his mother in  “Momma Can You Hear Me”.

HW0_646216

The tough and rough artist of hard rock, rock and roll, and punk rock also penned some sweet mother’s love lyrics. Singers like Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, Lucero, Elvis Presley and The Beatles have sung to show their love to their mothers. With lyrics like “Mama, she has taught me well, told me when I was young, ‘Son, your life’s an open book, Don’t close it ‘fore it’s done” by Metallica and “Seashell eyes, windy smile calls me, So I sing the song of love” By The Beatles, what mother’s heart wouldn’t melt into a puddle of goo.

R&B singers are known for their special way of making people get into their feelings. So imagine what we would feel when they sing lovely songs for their Moms. When the Boys II Men said “There was so many times, looking back when I was so afraid, and then you come to me and say to me, I can face anything” in their song “A Song for Mama” in their soulful voices and when R. Kelly said “I just can’t forget how you gave me love, oh no, if there’s a heaven up above, know she’s teaching angels how to love” in his song “Sadie” we felt all the feelings and so did all the mothers around the world.

HW0_584361

Even Justin Bieber made Beliebers out of mothers with his song “Turn to You” when he said “So when you’re lost and you’re tired, when you’re broken in two, let my love take you higher, Because I still turn to you” Other pop singers brought the fun in the mom-love too like The Spice Girls and the Backstreet boys.

So whatever genre of music you are into there is a song that will speak to that part of your heart that holds your mom. They are beautiful songs and they are pure and honest. Just like your mom’s love for you. And we leave you with one last song by The intruders “I’ll Always Love My Momma, She’s My Favorite Girl!”

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

Imagine: Work Without Your Administrative Staff

 2016-04-26-BLOG

HW0_345632

Imagine you didn’t have Your Administrative Assistant. We’ll give you a moment … How many hours in a day would you need to be able to finish your work? Administrative Assistants may be some of the most underappreciated members of the workforce and we think that should change. If you didn’t have an administrative assistant YOU would be responsible for doing everything. Yes, that suck. But it’s more than that. Your administrative assistant is your support in every way. S/he is your sounding board, your brainstorming buddy, your facilitator, the hero that pays attention to the smallest details and makes sure nothing falls thru the cracks. Int short, they allow you to shine brighter than you would have had you been running around doing everything they do. Let’s face it, you wouldn’t be able to concentrate on the “big things” had your Admin Assistant not prepared the “small” things for you. Had your Admin not worried about the small potatoes and researched, compiled, prepared and presented all the data you need while screening your calls, making your coffee, ordering your flowers and remembering employee birthdays, you wouldn’t be the superstar you are. Those are facts. You would be stretched in a thousand different directions that you would lose that “big idea” thinking mind.HW0_389727

Now we ask you, on this one week/day that we celebrate the unsung heroes of the corporate world, do you think that we are asking for too much when we suggest you do something to show your appreciation for their talent, skills and capable ways of keeping your sanity intact, is asking for too much? It the “they are doing what I pay them/they are paid to do” the attitude you need to have. We think not. These are people that support you. and we don’t use the word support lightly; they are your backbone, the cane you walk on, the ones that polish your shine, the ones that fall back and allow you to do what you do best and sparkle and lead. Don’t you think some token of your appreciation is warranted? Deserved? The answer you are looking for is YES! We, for sure, absolutely do!

So be the hero you are and do what’s right. Show your Administrative Assistant you appreciation and gratitude.
