There are some who would say that all of life, every day, is an achievement. But most people agree that some are bigger achievements than others. These are the achievements that should be marked with a celebration of some sorts, or at least a gift or two.
The first major achievement in our lives is usually our first birthday. Birthdays, in fact, are often marked as milestones in our lives. Some are bigger than others: 1st, 16th, 18th, 21st, 30th, 50th, and, if we make it, our 100th birthdays are usually celebrated with big parties. Even if it’s not one of these, many people have cake, go to dinner, and receive gifts on their birthdays.
During our high school years, many people go to prom. This achievement isn’t as large as some of the other ones, but it is often our first semi-formal or formal event. Getting dressed up, buying or receiving a corsage, and renting a limo are all things we do to mark this achievement.
Our next milestone is graduation. Some schools have a number of different graduations: kindergarten, middle school, and high school. Then there’s college graduation, and some people go into higher education programs and graduate again. Graduations, especially high school and college, mark the ending of one chapter of our lives and the beginning of another.
While it’s not always done in this order, the next achievement for many people is to get married. For some, women especially, their wedding is a huge event that they have been preparing for their entire life. The dress, the cake, the decorations, the flowers…months are spent on ever little detail. This achievement is shared with the entire family and many friends.
Another major achievement is having children. The birth of a child, especially the first child, is a major life-changing event. Your life will truly never be the same after having your first child. While this achievement is celebrated at first with a baby shower, gifts, and flowers at the hospital, in a way you’ll celebrate this achievement for the rest of your life.
Celebrating your anniversary, especially the first, tenth, twenty-fifth, and fiftieth, is a great milestone in your life. Give your spouse a gift, go out to dinner, or spend the day doing something special for just the two of you.
These are the biggest achievements in life, but they aren’t the only ones. Getting a new job, getting a promotion, buying a house…all of these and more are huge achievements and a reason to celebrate. So remember to celebrate all of your life’s achievements in the best way possible!
