Why Giving to Yourself is Good for Others

It might sound very odd, but sometimes giving to yourself is the best thing for other people.  Everyone needs a little pick me up or a bit of pampering now and then.  This is especially true after a hard day or after working on a particularly stressful project.  There are several benefits to giving to yourself that affect other people.

Being stressed and tense is not only bad for you, it’s also bad for others around you.  When we’re stressed, we tend to snap at others.  We also tend to make rash decisions and fail to think things through.  This can be disastrous, especially if we say something we shouldn’t at the wrong time.  Give yourself a break, even if it’s just for 15 minutes.

Giving yourself a break will positively affect your health as well.  How is this good for others?  Your loved ones won’t have to stress and worry over your health as much.  No one is happy when someone they are close to is suffering from high blood pressure due to stress.

When we’re not worrying over something or freaking out, we tend to think better and pay more attention to detail.  Someone who has taken a deep breath and done something to relax a bit is more productive and does a better job than someone who is very stressed.

Giving to yourself can improve your mood, your job performance, your health…it has many great benefits for you.  These benefits spill over to others since you’re happier, able to focus better, and feel better.  The next time you’re down, try giving yourself a little pick me up.  You’ll be surprised at how great it makes you feel and how others react to your improved mood.
